How Meta October 2026 pricing works with WhatsAble

Two bills, zero markup. How Meta's October service message charges work alongside your WhatsAble plan, and what to do before 30 September.

Meta is introducing per-message charges for service messages on the WhatsApp Business Platform from 1 October 2026. If you are a WhatsAble customer (or thinking about becoming one), this article explains exactly how the change affects your bills, what WhatsAble does and does not charge you for, and what you should do before 30 September.

For the full industry breakdown of what Meta is changing, read our sibling article: Meta Oct 2026 WhatsApp service message pricing explained.

Two bills, two meters: how it already works

WhatsAble customers have always had two separate bills. That does not change in October.

Bill 1: WhatsAble platform

Meter: Unique contacts reached per month

Plans: See the platform subscription table below ($19 / $49 / $53.90).

Unlimited messaging. $12 per extra 100 unique contacts beyond your tier.

Bill 2: Meta per-message fees

Meter: Per delivered message, by category and market

Markup: WhatsAble adds 0%

Billed directly by Meta. Rates on Meta's rate cards.

The WhatsAble unique-contact meter and the Meta per-message meter are completely independent.

  • Your WhatsAble contact overage ($12 per 100 unique contacts) does not cover Meta's October service message charges. Those are separate.
  • Meta's new service charges do not affect your WhatsAble subscription price. WhatsAble's pricing does not change because of this Meta update.
  • You will see Meta service message charges on your Meta invoice starting in October. Your WhatsAble invoice stays the same.

AI is included on Pro and Agency

Pro and Agency include AI at no extra WhatsAble fee. Your AI chatbot, AI-assisted replies, and AI Secretary all run within your Pro or Agency plan at no additional WhatsAble charge. The Bulk Message plan does not include AI. That still means two separate invoices: WhatsAble for unique contacts (plan price), Meta for per-message delivery after the 1,000 free tier per phone number, with 0% WhatsAble markup, not one combined bill.

Here is the important distinction: WhatsAble's AI is a third-party AI running on the WhatsApp platform. From Meta's perspective, replies sent by WhatsAble's AI are classified as service messages, because they are non-template messages inside a customer service window powered by a third-party AI (not Meta Business Agent).

That means from 1 October, every AI-generated reply delivered through WhatsAble will count toward your service message total. After your 1,000 free service messages per phone number per month, Meta charges the service rate for your recipient's market.

This is a Meta charge, not a WhatsAble charge.

WhatsAble AI is not Meta Business Agent

Meta launched its own AI product called Meta Business Agent in July 2026, with separate token-based pricing ($2.00 per million tokens, approximately 4-5 cents per message). Meta Business Agent is a completely different product from WhatsAble's AI.

  • WhatsAble AI: Included in your Pro/Agency plan. Meta bills the delivery as a service message.
  • Meta Business Agent: Separate Meta product. Meta bills per token, covering AI processing and message delivery in one charge.

Do not mix these up when reading Meta's pricing documentation.

Bulk Message plan: no AI included

The Bulk Message plan is built for template campaigns from your own verified number. It does not include AI chatbots, AI-assisted replies, or integrations with automation platforms. If you need AI, upgrade to Pro.

What you need to do before 30 September

Action required: Add or verify a payment method in Meta Billing Hub before 30 September 2026. Without a payment method, Meta will not deliver service messages after the 1,000 free tier per phone number is used up.

1. Payment method in Meta Billing Hub

Go to Meta Billing Hub, find your WhatsApp Business Account, and add or verify a credit card, debit card, or credit line. This is a Meta requirement, not a WhatsAble requirement. But if you skip it, your WhatsAble automations and AI replies stop being delivered once the free tier runs out.

2. Check your WhatsAble plan tier

Look at how many unique contacts you are reaching per month. Make sure your WhatsAble plan tier matches your actual volume. The unique-contact overage ($12/100) is separate from Meta's per-message charges, so optimizing your tier keeps your WhatsAble bill predictable.

3. Estimate your service message volume

In October, your AI replies, human agent responses, and any non-template messages inside the 24-hour window will all count as service messages. How many non-template messages does your team (or AI) send per month? The first 1,000 per phone number are free. Beyond that, check Meta's rate cards for your main recipient markets to estimate the added cost.

For sample Meta USD rates by market (marketing, utility/auth, and service from 1 October 2026), see the rate table in Meta Oct 2026 WhatsApp service message pricing explained, or Meta's full rate cards.

Making the 72-hour free entry point work for you

If you run Click-to-WhatsApp ads, the 72-hour free entry point window is your biggest cost advantage. When a lead clicks your ad and messages you, and you respond within 24 hours, a 72-hour window opens where all message delivery is free, including service messages.

This means your WhatsAble AI chatbot can qualify leads, answer questions, and carry a full conversation inside the free window at no Meta per-message cost. Think about timing:

  • Respond immediately. The free window starts from your first reply. A fast response gives you the maximum 72 hours.
  • Follow up around 24-36 hours. If a lead goes quiet, re-engage while still inside the free window.
  • Close before 72 hours. After the window, service messages are charged. If the conversation has not converted, guide the contact to another channel (email, your website) rather than burning service messages.

The 72-hour free entry point is a Meta feature. Because WhatsAble's AI can respond instantly and carry multi-turn conversations, you get more value out of the free window than a team relying on manual replies alone.

Coexistence: keeping the WhatsApp Business app

If you use WhatsAble with Coexistence (the WhatsApp Business app and the Cloud API on the same number):

  • Messages from the phone app: Free. The Business app does not use the Cloud API, so Meta's per-message billing does not apply.
  • Messages through WhatsAble (the API): Subject to Meta per-message pricing. Service messages count toward the 1,000 free tier and are charged beyond that.

Keep using the phone app for quick personal replies. Reserve WhatsAble for team conversations, automations, and AI, knowing that only the API side generates Meta charges.

Spend discipline: advice for WhatsAble customers

WhatsAble does not have per-message spending caps. Your WhatsAble meter is unique contacts, not messages. Meta's charges are separate and billed by Meta directly.

Practical ways to keep your total WhatsApp spend under control:

Right-size your WhatsAble unique-contact tier

Pick a tier that matches your real volume. Overshooting means you pay for contacts you never use. Undershooting means you pay $12 per extra 100 contacts on top of your plan. Review your contact usage in the WhatsAble dashboard and adjust before your next billing cycle.

Watch Meta Billing Hub

Get in the habit of checking Meta Billing Hub in October. This is where you will see the new service message charges for the first time. Understand which phone numbers generate the most service messages and whether the volume comes from human agents, AI replies, or automations.

Do not put every touch on WhatsApp

WhatsApp works best for conversations that benefit from real-time, personal messaging. For routine notifications, documents, or low-urgency follow-ups, consider qualifying leads or triaging requests through other channels first and routing only the high-value interactions to WhatsApp.

Configure your automations carefully

If you use WhatsAble automations through Make, Zapier, n8n, or the API, review the number of messages your flows send per conversation. Each non-template reply inside the 24-hour window is a service message. Make sure your flows have clear exit conditions and do not loop or over-message.

Meta local-currency billing

Meta has rolled out local-currency billing in several markets. This is handled entirely by Meta through Billing Hub and your WABA's Sold-To country.

  • India: WABAs must be in INR by 31 December 2026.
  • Brazil: New WABAs can be in BRL since July 2026. Migration by 30 June 2027.
  • 16 currencies currently supported.

Check your Sold-To country and WABA currency in Meta Billing Hub. If you are in India or Brazil, start the migration before the deadline.

WhatsAble's platform subscription is billed in USD. Meta's per-message fees are billed separately in whatever currency your WABA is set to. WhatsAble adds 0% markup on Meta fees regardless of the currency. The two bills are independent.
